• Giant cranes loom over the river Clyde, once the shipbuilding capital of the world in the early 20th century. The yard at Govan is one of the last two yards on the upper Clyde both owned by government company BAE Systems. A local adage states "The Clyde built Glasgow and Glasgow built the Clyde". Weeks after this photograph was taken, the cranes were deconstructed, a sign of the gradual dismantling of the works which are completing sections from the second of two Queen Elizabeth class Royal Navy aircraft carriers.
