• The Jacobite Express train crosses the Glenfinnan viaduct above Loch Shiel where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised the Jacobite standard to start his rebellion which ended in defeat at Culloden in 1745. The loss brought about the dismantling of the highland clan system and rebranding by poets and writers of the Scottish identity to deepen a sense of solidarity and Britishness. Today the site is more famous for its role carrying the Hogwart's Express in the Harry Potter films written by Scot J.K.Rowling adding another chapter to the land's rich narrative.
